The circular dial of this excellent mantel clock is set within a drum case, that is surmounted by a pair of love birds. Beneath, a hanging sunburst pendulum oscillates in the midst of a columnar support arrangement.
The mounting for this clock is in the form a richly ornate six-fold column base, mounted to the base and capital with ormolu, around which a gilt wreath drapes. Pinecone finials, friezes, bands, and small spinning-top-like feet adorn the case, which is veneered which richly vibrant malachite.
Made in France in the late nineteenth century, the marble of the original has been replaced with the malachite at some point during its history.
