Description

This fine Neoclassical style mantel clock is crafted from malachite and ormolu—with the malachite veneer being a later addition. The clock features a shaped rectangular malachite base raised on ormolu toupie feet. The base supports two square-profile columnar uprights, each veneered in malachite and adorned to the front with an ornate foliate ormolu mount. The cylindrical malachite clock drum is supported by the stepped capitals of the uprights, with an ornate grasping acanthus leaf mount on either side. The drum contains a white enamel dial painted with floral garlands and Arabic numeral hour marks. An elaborate urn-form ormolu mounted malachite finial surmounts the drum, while the ormolu hanging pendulum below is moulded with an Apollo sunburst motif.
