    Ebony

    Ebony is a very rare, black hardwood with a beautiful smooth finish, making it an incredibly valuable material. In the 18th and 19th Centuries, many fine pieces of furniture were stained black, in a process known as ebonising, in order to give the appearance of being made of rich ebony.
