Description

This piece, after a group originally modelled by J.J. Kaendler and re-worked by E.A. Leuteritz, depicts Venus and her assistant, partially dressed in revealing draperies, hauling in a fishing net which contains a young boy Triton and an extra catch of a number of fish. At the front a putto, or Cupid, does his best to assist with the haul. The group is set on an integral rockwork base applied with reeds, shells, a frog and a lobster. The colours are predominantly soothing, gentle, light ocean pastel tones, which complement the playful and whimsical nature of the piece.

The group is 28cm high, the crossed swords mark appears in underglaze-blue, with the incised model number C35, and impressed numeral and painter's number. (The work features some restoration and small chips).
