Description

The group depicts a full length female figure, representing the ancient Greek figure Melody, wearing draped clothing and leaning on a column for support. She is shown holding a lyre in her left hand, while extending her right hand out away from her. The sculpture is set on a square base with canted edges. The base contains the signature for Albert-Ernest Carrier-Belleuse (French, 1824-1887), reading 'A. Carrier Belleuse'.
