£12,000
Quistgaard’s designs are synonymous with the Scandinavian modern style, and this table embodies the minimalist, refined aesthetic for which he is celebrated.
This exceptional coffee table was designed by Jens Harald Quistgaard (1919–2008), the acclaimed Danish designer and sculptor. Quistgaard is best known for his pivotal role in popularizing Scandinavian modern design among American, European, and Japanese audiences through his collaboration with Dansk Designs.
The table features a square rosewood top, its natural grain beautifully enhanced by a rich wood stain. Four stainless steel circles adorn the surface, drawing the eye toward the table’s four legs. The metal supports are connected by rosewood stretchers, each elegantly tapering at the ends. Manufactured by Richard Nissen, founder of Nissens Trævarefabrik, this coffee table exemplifies the exceptional craftsmanship and refined aesthetics of fine Danish design.
Combining the natural beauty of wood with the sleek sophistication of metal, this mid-century modern piece is a highly desirable addition to any contemporary interior.
A similar table by Jans Quistgaard was sold in the Important 20th Century Design sale at Christie's New York on 16 June 2011 for $122,500.
