Monumental Chinese cloisonné enamel jardinière on stand

Designed and wrought on a remarkable scale, this jardinière is a marvellous example of 20^th Century Chinese decorative art. The jardinière features a traditionally shaped body with a surface profusely adorned with cloisonné enamel designs over a white enamel ground. The decorative scheme of the cloisonné enamel draws on traditional Chinese motifs, including writhing dragons, cresting and crashing waves, and abstracted floral patterns. The colour palette is drawn from the traditional Chinese wucai colours, which comprise dark blue, green, red, and yellow. The rim of the jardinière is rolled, and its rolled surface is engraved with abstract designs. The piece is supported by an ornately carved hardwood stand of four legs.
