Description

Carved from Carrara marble, these very fine sculptural figures of children, or putti, depict a young boy and girl, and deftly convey both the joy and delicacy of childish innocence, while also bearing allegorical and symbolic meaning.

By 'Ao. Stampanoni, Roma,' one is modelled as a young boy gleefully holding a coin purse, while the other is modelled as a young, more feminine figure, a girl in all likelihood, who stands wrapped in a cloak, drawing it around herself to keep out the cold - she symobolises Winter.

They are both signed, situated, and dated: 'Ao. Stampanoni, Roma, 1862,' and stand upon an oval and circular base respectively.

Boy: height 89cm, width 31cm, depth 25cm
Girl: height 83cm, width 31cm, depth 33cm
