The pedestals are of almost identical design. They stand on splayed square variegated marble bases, one of which is red and the other pink. The bases are set on slim ormolu (gilt bronze) feet, and their tops edged with ormolu egg-and-dart bands. Each column features a rectangular panelled shaft, the bottoms and necks of which are decorated with multicoloured champlevé enamel designs, ormolu husk trails and painted porcelain plaques. These porcelain paintings depict young lovers, courting in outdoor settings. The pedestal shafts are crafted from green onyx and are mounted with champlevé enamel finial-shaped motifs, centred on ormolu rosettes. The pedestals are surmounted by flared marble tops—one pink and one red—and square green onyx slabs.
