£18,000
This highly unusual three-piece clock set, by the celebrated French makers Raingo Frères, is a striking example of the remarkably ornate Neo-Byzantine style.
This striking clock set is comprised of a central mantel clock and a pair of flanking en suite candelabra. The set is wrought from ormolu in the highly distinctive Neo-Byzantine style, which draws its inspiration from the arts and artefacts of the Byzantine world.
The clock features a plinth-form ormolu body surrounded by a series of arched colonnades and champlevé enamel adorned columns centred with intricately designed panther masks, with each panther mask springing from a scrolling buttress terminating in a paw foot. The front face of the clock features a circular dial adorned to the centre with enamel, set above an enamel-backed cartouche with a religious figure shown in relief. The domed top of the clock is surmounted by four winged panthers and an ornate series of pierced buttresses.
The en suite candelabra are similarly decorated, each featuring a conforming body and stem supporting six scrolled light branches.
