Neo-Gothical parcel gilt antique wooden harp by Erard
By Érard (French, 1777-1971)
£15,000
This impressive antique harp is rendered in the elaborate Neo-Gothic style, and is significant for its fine figurative detailing of the carved musicians.
This harp, by the celebrated maker Érard, is designed in the wonderful Neo-Gothic, or Gothic Revival, style. The parcel gilt base of the harp is raised by four feet, the two front feet modelled as seated tigers. From the base rises the column, richly carved and parcel gilt with a variety of Gothic motifs including carved mouldings, pointed trefoil arches, and saint-like allegorical figures of music.
The wooden frame is signed to the brass 'ERARD 13, Rue du Mail A PARIS'.
