Of unclear continental origin, this fine object is a large, twentieth century, mineral specimen vase, made from alabaster, a fine-grained, tinted white version of gypsum.
The design is distilled, showing the core framework of a Neoclassical form, but with much of the excess embellishments trimmed away, such that the pure texture of the material used can be displayed to full effect.
A fine decorative piece, there are few interiors that would not benefit from an object as elegant and pleasing as this.
