Description

Gilded, fitted as a lamp and mounted with a pleated shade, this fine lighting piece is built around a beautiful floral opaline glass vase originally by Baccarat, the leading French glassmaking firm of the nineteenth century.

The vase is florally painted to the front and reverse, in a pleasing, gentle, and artistic Rococo fashion. Smaller floral bursts adorn the neck, with flowers interspersed around the piece. The base and a ring around the neck are gilt and the vase is fitted with brass to form a lamp with twin-bulb fixtures.

Baccarat was a leading French glassmaking firm of international repute and their works have remained highly prized, particularly those made in the nineteenth century when production was at its zenith. Conversion into lamps such as this is not uncommon and demonstrates the precious value ascribed to Baccarat glass, with a strong desire to make use of their beautiful glass wares.
