This small yet very fine piece is a twentieth century vase made from fluorspar, or flourite, the naturally occuring mineral form of calcium flouride, and makes for a charming and eminently desirable decorative ware.
Made as a form of mineral specimen vase - to showcase the beautiful natural qualities of the rare, precious mineral used - the design is simple yet elegant, unassuming, yet accentuating the wonderful bands and blocks of colour within the flourspar. While of unclear continental origin, it is evidently a very fine piece indeed.
