This three-piece ormolu (gilt bronze) and champlevé enamel clock set, comprised of a central mantel clock and a pair of flanking candelabra, is designed in an eclectic Belle Époque style, incorporating elements of the Baroque, the Rococo, and the Neoclassical into a playful assemblage.
The central mantel clock is supported by a flat and shaped ormolu base, raised by toupie feet. The face of the base is inset with enamel in the champlevé manner, the enamel wrought into geometrical forms and composed of beautifully variegated shades of blue. The base supports a shaped ormolu plinth—flanked by rectilinear scrolls finished with polychrome champlevé enamel—upon which sits the cylindrical clock drum. The drum contains the ormolu dial, accented with champlevé enamel, and inscribed with Roman numerals. The drum is flanked by a pair of ormolu cherubim, is set below with an ormolu floral garland, and is surmounted by a stylised ormolu and champlevé enamel urn-form finial.
The pair of candelabra is similarly decorated, each candelabrum raised on an ormolu base and accented with champlevé enamel elements. Each candelabrum supports four ormolu branches, ornately curvilinear in form, the sides of which are inset with polychrome enamel. Like the clock, each candelabrum is surmounted by a flambeau ormolu finial.
The reverse of the movement is stamped.
