This fine chandelier is crafted in a Neoclassical style that incorporates elements of the Louis XVI style and the Empire. The chandelier is crafted from ormolu and glass, both cobalt blue and cut. The Roman oil lamp shaped body of the chandelier features a concave clear glass top cut with a latticework of lines, while the underside is formed from cobalt blue glass. The body is encompassed by an ormolu meridian, which issues ten lights: five ormolu branches are modelled as cherubs holding aloft torches, while the other, interspersing five branches are modelled as swans’ necks.
The body of the chandelier is suspended from five ormolu wires, each centred with a medallion, with the five wires supported by ceiling mount, which is in turn adorned with a corona of anthemia. The top of the cut glass body is surmounted by a large and impressive finial of a female angel-like figure, deftly cast from ormolu.
