Description

This fine pedestal is crafted from beautiful green marble and ormolu, or gilt bronze. The pedestal features a stepped rectangular base, a tapered shaft, and an entablature surmounted by a flat plateau. The piece is set throughout with Neoclassical style ormolu mounts, such as the friezes that encompass the steps below and entablature above, which are all finely moulded with acanthus leaf forms. The front of the pedestal features a trio of Neoclassical style ormolu mounts: the front of the entablature is set with an emblem comprised of twin cornucopia framing a laurel wreath; the front of the shaft features a flaming torch wrapped in ribbons and another wreath; and the front of the base is set with a circular wreath tied with a bow.
