Featuring a rectangular pink granite marble top above a guilloche mounted frieze, this excellent antique centre table is made in the Louis XVI style, and as such mixes Rococo and Neoclassical elements.
The table surface is placed on four classical term tapering legs which are crafted in the manner of Adam Weisweiler. They are joined by a raised galleried pink granite marble platform to create an under-tier, and they terminate in long toupie feet. The caryatid-like female figures that decorate the legs are typical of Weisweiler, and the piece achieves a pleasing contrast of these sculpted and gilt bronze elements and the pure, physical presence of the hard granite on both upper and low tiers. The use of mahogany adds another dimension of materiality that shows the originality and sophistication of this fine antique table.
