This beautiful secretaire is an elegant example of Louis XV style design, being profusely adorned with delicate portrayals of floral sprays in marquetry.
This fine secretaire is crafted in the Louis XV style from tulipwood and rosewood and is adorned all over with marquetry of those two woods as well as inlays of partly dyed precious woods and ormolu mounts.
The secretaire is of traditional form, with a wedge-shaped top opening to reveal an interior compartment, with a shaped apron beneath raised on four cabriole legs connected with two shelf-form stretchers. The exterior surfaces of the secretaire are profusely adorned with floral marquetry of kingwood and tulipwood. The interior compartment contains a series of drawers and cubby holes, all similarly adorned with marquetry veneers, as are the shelves that connect the four legs. The two front legs terminate in ormolu acanthus scroll sabots, while the centre of the front apron features an ormolu escutcheon.
