This superb dressing table is crafted in the manner of the Aesthetic Movement, a style that swept European art and design during the latter decades of the 19th Century and continued into the early decades of the 20th, when the present piece was produced.
The dressing table features a lower cabinet containing three central drawers flanked by twin end curved cabinet doors. The drawers and the uprights to either side are adorned with Aesthetic Movement style marquetry inlays of floral garlands. The cabinet is surmounted by a veined marble plateau, below which—and above the drawers and doors of the cabinet—is mounted a continuous ormolu bas relief frieze. The uprights are surmounted by large and impressive ormolu putti.
The upper section of the dresser features a large backboard centred with a square mirror. The mirror is flanked on either side by ormolu bas relief panels and floral marquetry and is set above with another continuous floral bas relief frieze.
The dressing table can be combined with a matching bed and wardrobe to create a full bedroom suite.
