The jardinière is set on a specially-crafted ebonised teak stand. The stand is placed on four legs, which are carved with pierced decoration and dragon masks, and terminate in ball-and-claw feet. The top of the stand is tired, each tier lined with beading and separated by ball forms.
Above, the jardinière is set on an ormolu (gilt bronze) base which is pierced with scrollwork and placed on outward-scrolled feet. The jardinière’s body is bulbous and tapers towards its base. It is crafted from cloisonné enamel, which is arranged to depict blue, white, red and pink flowers with green foliage, against a bright blue ground. Butterflies are portrayed fluttering between these flowers. The jardinière’s shoulder is decorated with a band of stylised black, yellow, blue and red ruyi heads. The jardinière is fitted with a flared ormolu rim which features decorative pierced ruyi heads.
The body of the jardinière was crafted in China and the ormolu mounts were added in France.
