This superb guéridon, which follows the example of the preeminent French cabinetmaker Adam Weisweiler, is formed from ormolu mounted mahogany and onyx.
This guéridon (or a circular-topped side table) follows the example of Adam Weisweiler, whose 'guéridon doubles colonnettes', or side tables with double-column legs, proved to be popular models during and after Weisweiler’s lifetime.
This guéridon features in inset circular veined onyx top encompassed by an ormolu (gilt bronze) frieze and set above a mahogany entablature. The tabletop is supported by three twin-columnar, ring-turned bamboo form ormolu legs, the three legs joined towards the bottom by a trefoil interlaced loop stretcher. This stretcher, edged with inset ormolu mounts, is surmounted at the centre with an elaborately formed ormolu finial. The table stands on three feet, each mounted with ormolu hoof form sabots.
