Description

This beautiful writing desk is attributed to the prominent Franco-German ébéniste Joseph-Emmanuel Zwiener. The table is designed in the decadent Louis XV style. The shaped tabletop is adorned with marquetry of kingwood and citronnier, the inlaid veneers wrought into a superb, flowing floral composition. The edge of the tabletop is mounted with an ormolu frame, while the shaped apron below features further panels of conforming marquetry as well as ormolu foliate mounts: each marquetry panel is deftly framed with a superb ormolu frame comprised of naturalistic intertwining sprays. The table is supported on four cabriole legs, each leg set to the shoulder with an intricate ormolu mount and terminating below in an ormolu foliate sabot.
