This traditional Ottoman ewer and accompanying basin are finely crafted from solid silver. The ewer, with its elongated, ovoid body, features a slender curved spout and scrolled foliate handle, both of which spring from the bulbous body—the handle reattaching at the top of the slender neck. The neck is topped by a hinged lid, which is in turn surmounted by an ornate finial. The pierced and engraved basin is of traditional form, its beautiful curved body flaring broadly to its wide rim.
The silver throughout is superbly cast and finely finished with delicate engraving, the profuse engraving taking the form of traditional Arabic decorative script and a variety of other floral and traditionally Islamic motifs.
The silver is fully hallmarked and indistinctly signed.
