Description

The two large stained glass inset panels are finely created with leaded borders to create the scenes depicted from different coloured stained glass. They are housed within wooden frames. The panels both work together to create a scene of a peacock with long and elaborate plumage, perched on a marble colonnade balcony overlooking a green garden landscape with flowers and a further marble columnar structure.

The Aesthetic movement was born in the second half of the 19th Century and its main ideal was to produce art purely for the sake of it being beautiful and to be enjoyed for the way it looks. Stained glass was an important component of Aestheticism- as well as other forms of art such as painting, furniture and embroidery among others.

Each panel measures: Height 239cm, width 59cm (118cm when together), depth 9cm
