Pair of antique English silver Judaica Torah finials or Rimonim
£5,500
Made in England in the early twentieth century, these fine silver wares are a pair of antique Torah finials, finely wrought, and surmounted with gilt eagles.
With a wonderful combination of intricate, pierced scrolling silver panels and silver gilt embellishments, these beautiful Torah finials, also known as Rimonim, form exceptional items of antique Judaica.
Hallmarked, though with unclear maker's marks, they were made by silversmiths in London in 1916. They consist of thin cylindrical stems, mounted with a central section consisting of a large intricate hollow framework of scrolling pierced panels, almost in filigree, which are adorned with a circular band of bells (a small number of which are amiss).
Above, a semi-hemispherical dome is mounted with a pair of silver-gilt eagles, with wings outstretched, beneath which a single bell hangs in a hollow, crown-shaped enclave. They are engraved in Hebrew to the stem for the dedicatee. Beautiful antique pieces, they are elegant works of Judaica, and equally fine work of antique English silverware.
