This fine pair of stained-glass windows was produced in Austria around 1910, during the height of the Vienna Workshops, or Wiener Werkstätte, movement. The Vienna Workshops were a direct response to English Arts and Crafts, which was championed by William Morris, and the present pair of windows demonstrate much of the style and taste of the movement.
Each window is of elongated rectangular form. When viewed side-by-side, the windows depict an architectural composition, comprised of a frieze of flowering vines on the sides and top, which are set within trompe l’oeil architectural frames. The central panel of the windows portrays curved brackets and abstracted floral forms, enclosing an ovoid pale blue centre. The colour palette is bright and vibrant, with yellows, blues, and pinks predominating.
