The mirrors in this pair are crafted from ormolu in the ornate Baroque style. Each mirror - or applique - features a richly formed ormolu frame in the shape of a cartouche, with the frame profusely moulded with scrolling foliate forms, sprouting leaves, and scallop shells.
The crown of each mirror is centred with a winged cherub rendered alto-relievo, while the bottom of each is affixed with twin light branches. Each scrolling branch moulded with elaborate foliate forms. Each branch terminates in a single candle holder above a foliate drip pan.
The gilding is radiant, bright, and in outstanding condition. When illuminated with candles or other lightings it glows with a magnificent light, instantly evocative of Italian Baroque spaces or palaces, especially in the glow of evening.Â
