This fine pair of ormolu and malachite candelabra dates from the period of Charles X, though the malachite veneer is a later addition.
Each candelabrum features a cylindrical malachite podium raised atop an ormolu apron with three scrolled feet. The ormolu stem of each is moulded in the round with a bas relief scene of putti, the manner of which recalls the great sculptor Clodion. The sculptural stem of each is surmounted by a malachite shaft, which in turn supports the springing of five light branches, each modelled as a Roman oil lamp. The branches of each are draped with ormolu chains.
