This fine pair of glass vases is a superb demonstration of so-called Peking glass: a form of overlay glass, where glass of one colour is overlaid atop glass of another colour, and the top layer is etched and carved away to produce embossed, relief decoration. The present pair of vases are of traditional form, each with a white glass body overlaid with red, the red glass carved into a profusion of floral and foliate forms in a traditional Chinese style.
