The pair of vases take an unusual undulating shape and have been magnificently decorated in cloisonne enamel. Each vase is formed of three main connected circular sections- the base and rims both outward flaring- with each section bordered by a circular gilt band.
The vase bodies are richly decorated with elaborate cloisonné enamel depictions of exotic birds flying among flowers and grapevines. Parrots are shown perched on tree branches and an array of foliage leaves no surface unadorned. The vivid details in numerous different colours, gives the works a tremendous zest and energy. The bodies are supported on bases, adorned with repeated patterns of flowers and organic motifs in blue, green red and orange, with the vase necks similarly decorated. At the top, the vase rims feature smaller birds arranged amongst foliage, within a band of stylised geometric pattern-work.
