Pair of large Chinese Canton famille jaune porcelain vases
£45,000
These superb Chinese porcelain vases, each of distinctive and traditional form, features surfaces delicately painted with scenes drawn from traditional Chinese courtly life.
This pair of large Canton style famille jaune porcelain vases demonstrates some of the best craftsmanship from early 20th Century China. Each vase is ‘mallet shaped’, having a long, ovoid or baluster body with a waisted neck and a flared, or lobed, rim. Each vase features twin double foo dog polychrome handles mounted to the neck. The white-ground body of each vase is profusely decorated, featuring abundant flowers and foliage around rectangular panels containing depictions of figural court scenes. The colour palette is rich and busy: yellows and greens predominate, as is expected with famille jaune porcelain, with moments of red and blue contrasting pleasingly.
