Description

This pair of large Canton style famille jaune porcelain vases demonstrates some of the best craftsmanship from early 20th Century China. Each vase is ‘mallet shaped’, having a long, ovoid or baluster body with a waisted neck and a flared, or lobed, rim. Each vase features twin double foo dog polychrome handles mounted to the neck. The white-ground body of each vase is profusely decorated, featuring abundant flowers and foliage around rectangular panels containing depictions of figural court scenes. The colour palette is rich and busy: yellows and greens predominate, as is expected with famille jaune porcelain, with moments of red and blue contrasting pleasingly.

This pair is ideally complemented by these two other works in our collection, best enjoyed as a four as pictured above.
