This pair of large Canton style famille verte porcelain vases demonstrates some of the best craftsmanship from early 20th Century China. Each vase is ‘mallet shaped’, having a long, ovoid or baluster body with a waisted neck and a flared, or lobed, rim. Each vase features twin double foo dog polychrome handles mounted to the neck. The white-ground body of each vase is profusely decorated, featuring abundant flowers and foliage around rectangular panels containing depictions of figural court scenes. The colour palette is rich and busy: greens and pinks predominated, as is expected with famille verte porcelain, with moments of red and blue contrasting pleasingly.
