Description

Immediately eye-catching and attention-grabbing, these radiant and splendid vases were crafted in the ever-popular French Empire style, in sumptuously gilt porcelain. The bodies of the vases, mounted on small sqaure black plinths, are lined with gilding from head to toe, unapologetic in their grandeur.

They feature on either face large cameo panels, with profile views of female busts in each oval frame. These portraits with their thick locks of hair, stern jawlines, and strong Roman noses, are cleary intended to convey a Neoclassical and Roman sense of authority, full of confidence, matched only by the extensive and bold use of gold. With a pair of angelic-putti busts for the handles on each piece, these vases are exceptional examples of the brilliance of the French Empire style and all its possibilities.
