These fine bedside cabinets were made by Lamb of Manchester, in a pleasing, modest and comforting style that sets them apart from more decorative French works of the same time.
They each feature moulded edges and rounded corners with canted angles. The front face is decorated in each corner with a small scrolling element - corbels - the only major decorative element these pieces feature, in keeping with the charming modesty and understated nature of these elegant works.
They are raised on plinth bases and are stamped 'LAMB / MANCHESTER' above the opening doors, with the inventory number '4377.'
Lamb of Manchester were an renowned English firm, achieving great success under the leadership of James Lamb, born 1816, who turned the family firm into a leading high class interior design maker and retailer. These charming cabinets are delightful examples of their craft.
