The pedestals in this pair are crafted from malachite and ormolu, or gilt bronze, in the manner of François Linke, with their ornate style deriving from that of the Rococo of Louis XV.
The pedestals feature bombe shaped bodies, wrought from malachite and set with fine ormolu mounts in the Rococo style. Each pedestal is raised atop four ormolu paw feet, each foot joining the body with an acanthus leaf sabot. The four shoulders of each pedestal are mounted with espagnolettes—sculptural female busts that were a staple of Rococo period design. The bottom of each features a singular rocaille—another flourish associated with the Rococo—while the remainder of the body of each is adorned with blind cartouches, scallop shells, and floral garlands, all wrought from ormolu. Each pedestal is surmounted with a flat malachite plateau.
