Description

The lamps in this pair are crafted from glass and ormolu, or gilt bronze, in the Louis XVI style. Each lamp is modelled as a vase, complete with podium below and ovoid body above, the form of the vase and the manner of its decoration being distinctly Louis XVI in style.

Each lamp features a square plinth crafted from glass cut with a lattice pattern, the plinth mounted below with a moulded ormolu base and above with a flared ormolu entablature. The plinth of each lamp supports a foliate ormolu socle, which in turn supports the fluted glass vase-form body. The vase-form body of each features superb ormolu scrolled handles mounted to the shoulders, each handle moulded with foliate detailing and set below with a classical mask. From the mouth of the vase of each lamp springs its lighting apparatus.
