Description

This fine pair of cassolettes is crafted from malachite and ormolu in the Neoclassical style, with the malachite veneer being a later addition. Each cassolette features a triform malachite base raised on a narrow ormolu apron and bun feet. The base of each supports three acanthus leaf moulded curved legs, each terminating in a hoof below and culminating in a personification of the wind above. The legs embraced the spherical malachite body of the cassolette, which is adorned with ormolu garlands and appended below with an ormolu drop finial. The body of each is surmounted by a waisted malachite neck topped with a domed malachite lid, which is in turn adorned with an ormolu acorn finial.
