The maker of these fantastic candelabra Henri Picard was an important fondeur and doreur who was widely acclaimed in his lifetime, and was one of a handful of artisans who received the honour of being appointed to produce clocks, candelabra, decorative objects and furniture mounts for the Emperor Napoleon III during the 1850s and 1860s.
These candelabra are each modelled as a full length Classical female figure in draped robes holding aloft a six light candelabrum. The candelabra lights and branches are each modelled as a bouquet of flowers, with vines, leaves and flower heads.
Each of the lights also contains a circular, florally-themed cut glass drip pan. The figures are set on florally decorated plinth bases with scrolling feet. Each base is signed 'H. Picard'.
One candelabra is slightly larger than the other, with the larger measuring 93cm tall and the smaller 82cm tall.
