The superb Imari vases in this pair are crafted from porcelain. The vases are of traditional form, each with an ovoid body, a long waisted neck, and a flared lip. The white ground porcelain bodies are painted to the front with rectangular cartouches containing scenes depicting figures amidst birds and flowing water with mountain landscapes in the distance. The vases feature further painted decoration to the rims and reverses portraying rivers, landscapes, flowers, birds, and fish. Tones of red and blue predominate, as is typical with Imari porcelain. The undersides are signed.
