Description

The patinated spelter sculptures in this pair are after works by French Art Nouveau artists George Maxim and Auguste Moreau. The sculptures depict women in dynamic poses with flowing hair and revealing dresses, with both figures standing on rocky integral bases. One figure holds a lyre, while the other sways in dance. They are supported by green serpentine marble plinths.

Each sculpture is labelled with a plaque, one reading ‘Libellule par Geo Maxim’ (Dragonfly by George Maxim) and the other reading ‘La Musique par Aug. Moreau Med. d’Or’ (Music by Auguste Moreau, Gold Medal).
