Description

Each vase is of baluster form, set on shaped ormolu plinths with frieze decorations. The plinths support waisted socle bases in porcelain, which are connected to the main bodies with acanthus leaf ormolu mounts. The bodies are formed in porcelain with a dark blue ground and are painted with cartouches depicting war scenes to the front, and landscapes with a castle to the reverse. The front cartouches are both set within borders of gilt scrolling foliage and bear a signature to the lower left reading 'Maglin', after the famous ceramic decorator of the 19th Century. The bodies are mounted to each side with twin ormolu masks leading to scrolling acanthus leaf handles.
