These grand and impressive vases sit on their original carved wood stands, decorated with Chinese wave-form motifs and dragons. They are decorated with scenes that depict typical Chinese court scenes with many figures and elaborate colours. The borders are decorated with flowers, butterflies, vases and other objects. The necks have a metal ring for support and hold the similarly decorated covers above. The stands are fitted with insets to perfectly fit the vases.
This pair of vases is typical of the porcelain made in the Canton region of China in the 19th Century, produced to satisfy the demand of wealthy individuals in Western countries looking for exotic decorations in the Oriental style.
