Pair of French Empire period gilt ground porcelain vases
£28,000
This exquisite pair of gilt ground porcelain vases represent a fine example of French craftsmanship during the Empire period of the early 19th Century.
The vases are decorated all over on gilt ground, which is tooled and burnished with palmettes, rosettes and acanthus leaves. They also feature oval cartouches on the centre of their bodies. The front cartouches of the vases show Teniers-type scenes of figures playing cards and drinking, while the reverse of the vases shows putti playing within a landscape. The vases are mounted with upright, scrolling twin handles which enclose a matte gilt ground panel with a relief depicting Cupid. The vases are set on a square plinth base with a waisted socle.
