These excellent pieces are a pair of fine gilt and ormolu Empire style table lamps. Made in the late nineteenth century, they consist of patinated bronze bodies, decorated with ormolu mounts of fruit and foliage.
The lower half of each features four patinated bronze griffins, which are supported on an ormolu pedestal with lion paw feet. These in turn are all set upon a circular patinated bronze base. The wonderful alternations in bronze and gold are complemented by the pure white of the shades, creating a pair of fine pieces, of remarkable presence and quality. They are stamped 'Hicks & Son's / Patent.'
