Description

Each mahogany bookcase in this pair features a bipartite design. The lower body of each is a cabinet with blind wooden doors, within which is a single wooden shelf. Above each lower door is a drawer with an ormolu (gilt bronze) handle and an ormolu keyhole. The upper body, recessed in depth to create a shallow shelf, features double glazed doors and three wooden shelves within. The design of the bookcases is of a refined Neoclassical nature. Mounted ormolu elements articulate the lines of construction, lending the pair a classical grandeur. Each bookcase is surmounted by a mahogany cornice with ormolu elements. Ormolu features extensively throughout: the glass panes of the upper cabinets are edged in ormolu, as are the panels of the lower doors and drawers.
