Pair of Louis XV style antique giltwood console tables
£65,000
These beautiful antique Italian console tables are distinctive for their ornate giltwood legs, which have been highly decorated with natural and Rococo style imagery.
The beautiful console or pier tables in this pair are crafted from giltwood, marble, and imitation marble in the Rococo style of Louis XV. Each table features a shaped marble top set above an imitation marble frieze profusely adorned with giltwood mounts. The frieze is centred with a large pierced shell-like mount, while similar mounts adorn the centres of both sides. Each table is supported to the front with intricate giltwood legs, which are carved with cherubs playing musical instruments and a host of foliate forms, including floral garlands and grasping acanthus leaves. The rear of each table features an imitation backing, which is mounted to each side with caryatid like figurative brackets and is centred with a blind giltwood frame.
