Description

These (recently re-veneered) lapis lazuli vases stand on ormolu stems with circular bases, which are each set on four feet. The circular bases are designed to look like laurel wreaths, and they are decorated with beading and ovolo mouldings. The stem tops are cast as stylised leaves.

The vases feature tall and slender blue lapis lazuli bodies and elongated lapis necks. The vases’ upper bodies are mounted with ormolu bands, decorated with scrolled patterns and beading. Each vase is fitted with two ormolu handles, with foliate ends and square-shaped tops, decorated with pinecone finials. The square-topped handles are connected to ormolu bands that encircle the vase necks, and ormolu foliage swags are draped between them.

Each vase is topped by an ormolu lid, which is decorated with a twisted rope form, beading and stylised leaf forms, and crowned by a pointed finial.
