Description

The frames in this pair are wrought from ormolu, or gilt bronze, and deep blue velvet in the Neoclassical style. Each frame features a cobalt blue velvet mount, which is set with an assemblage of classicising ormolu motifs, including laurel sprays, ribbon-tied wreathes, and garlands. This velvet mount is set to the interior edge with a moulded ormolu border, while the exterior edge is bounded by the ormolu body of the frame itself. Each easel-backed frame is mounted to the top with an elaborate ormolu crown composed of crossed flaming torches on a bed of laurel.
