The vases are set on square gilt bronze (ormolu) plinths with scalloped corners and guilloche-patterned upper edges. The vases stand on gilt bronze splayed feet with wreath-shaped bases, fluted centres, and foliate tops.
Each vase features a chalice-shaped body which is decorated on its front with a painting of cherubs, and on its reverse with a flower bouquet. These paintings are contained within gilt oval floral frames, set against ‘bleu celeste’ (sky blue) grounds. The vases’ bodies are mounted with gilt bronze handles which take the form of grinning Grotesque masks, their beards twisted and their hair entwined with flowers and fruits. The mouths of the vases are fitted with gilt bronze Vitruvian scroll bands.
The vases are covered by slightly domed porcelain lids which are ‘bleu celeste’ in colour and decorated with parcel gilt painted floral bands. The lids are crowned by gilt bronze pinecone finials.
